Encore Public Voices Fellows Sylvia Brown and Ayele Shakur, both from our region, have suggested in a Commentary on WBUR's website that annual donations to colleges, particularly the ones that go to the wealthiest universities, may be creating a disadvantage for the students who most need their help. Students who are the first in their families to attend college are in greater need or support and at greater risk of dropping out because they cannot afford tuition. Sylvia and Ayele suggest that as we rethink the admissions contaminated by scandal, we also rethink our philanthropic investments in higher education. Read the article here.
