This Encore Circle will bring together Newton residents age 50+ from various Newton villages to explore how divisive-ness is seeping into all aspects of our lives, locally and globally. Can we restore our natural state of connection through the power of the arts?
Using the arts, we will seek to build bridges across what may currently separate us. Through interviews, information gathering, outings, art-making, and movement, we will create a performance and/or art event that we will share with the community, our friends and families. This project has three parts.
Part 1: Get Ready!
A core group of 5-8 Newton residents age 50+ will study the root cause of divisiveness in articles, books and conversation. We will design the project, conduct interviews with others, and develop the time frame.
Part 2: Get Set!
The group will reach out to others, including artists, to create the actual event or performance. Part 2 will commence in early summer and run through mid-fall. This part of the project will develop the art forms and prepare an event or performance.
Part 3: Go!
We'll activate the event we have been planning with the goal of engaging art as a bridge to restore connections in our community.
