EBN: Mastering the Multigenerational Workforce

Five generations now make up the US workforce. Economic and demographic trends mean that people will continue working into their 60s, 70s and even 80s. As the workplace becomes more diverse in other ways, it's also spanning a greater range of ages.

So what does that mean for employers and workers? And what is the impact for older workers? To help answer those questions and more, we'll be joined by Chris Farrell, senior economics contributor for Marketplace and other media outlets, and intergenerational team member Julia Correia, Senior Business Development Manager at Water for People.

Chris and Julia will be interviewed by Kara Cohen, of AARP Massachusetts. They will walk us through the myths about generational conflict, the advantages of multigenerational teams (spoiler alert: they're more productive, innovative and profitable), and tips for making the most of the multigenerational opportunity.

Chris Farrell is senior economics contributor at Marketplace, American Public Media’s nationally syndicated public radio business and economics program. He is also economics commentator for Minnesota Public Radio and host of its series Conversations on the Creative Economy as well as a columnist for PBS Next Avenue and the Star Tribune. He has published five books on personal finance and the economy including, most recently, Purpose and a Paycheck: Finding Meaning, Money, and Happiness in the Second Half of Life. He holds degrees from Stanford University and the London School of Economics.

Julia Correia is a Senior Business Development Manager at Water for People, a nonprofit organization committed to ending the global water and sanitation crisis. In her role, Julia works closely with individual donors, corporate partners, and foundations who are committed to supporting Water For People’s work across nine countries in Latin America, Africa, and India. Julia previously worked in outdoor education and volunteer management at a youth empowerment organization. She holds a degree from Boston University.
