EBN: 5 Trends in the New World of Work, with Kerry Hannon

The workplace has changed a lot in recent years, but those changes accelerated into major trends during the pandemic. Sometimes it’s hard to keep up, but we don’t really have a choice. To succeed in this new world, we have to understand what these trends are all about.

This is especially true for people over 50. For us, the workplace is often seen as unwelcoming. But understanding how this new world works can open doors to opportunity that might otherwise be invisible.

In this session, we’ll explore 5 major trends emerging from the pandemic:
  >  Remote work
  >  Contract jobs
  >  Entrepreneurship
  >  Career transition
  >  The explosion of virtual learning
Each of these points to life-changing possibilities for 50+ workers and job seekers.

Our guide to these trends is Kerry Hannon, a workplace futurist, career expert and author of the recent book “In Control at 50+: How to Succeed in the New World of Work.” As a journalist, speaker and writer, she has focused her work on career transitions, entrepreneurship, personal finance and retirement.

Kerry will help us learn what’s different about the workplace now, the best ways to find a job in this market, other forms of work you should be thinking about, how to play to your strengths as an older worker or job seeker, and what changes you can expect as we look ahead.

This is a rare opportunity to hear from a down-to-earth and widely respected national expert whose work has appeared in the New York Times, MarketWatch, Forbes, Next Avenue, ABC, CBS, CNBC, NBC, NPR and PBS. She is currently senior columnist for Yahoo Finance.

Kerry will be interviewed by Cheryl Gelzer Alexis, Learning and Development Partner for MassHire South Shore Career Center. Cheryl's background includes Human Resources Director at Reebok and Simmons College, Labor Relations Counsel at MacDonald's, Associate Director of Athletics at Harvard University and founder of her own business. She is a graduate of Harvard University and University of Chicago Law School.
