THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED: The Pandemic Has Worsened Youth Literacy: How You Can Help
Did you know that roughly 70% of Boston's fourth graders are reading below grade level? This is true for most urban areas and the problem is a significant obstacle not only to the child's learning ability but also to a thriving community. The pandemic only exacerbated this problem as many children were not in the classroom for over a year. Learn why youth literacy rates need to be addressed and how you can help.
Join us on Dec. 15 at 10:00 to hear from
Kelly Kulsrud
, Co-founder and Executive Director of the Lectio Institute, which works to ensure that all children's literacy efforts and those they serve reach their potential. Kelly is a national expert in youth literacy, with a M.Ed in Language and LIteracy from Harvard Graduate School of Education.
Joining Kelly will be
Wes Enicks
, Executive Director of Literations, one of the nation's most effective school-based literacy programs that relies on older volunteers who are trained to be literacy coaches. Hear about the strategies that Literations uses to successfully reach hundreds of young students each year to provide literacy support and social emotional learning.
You will also hear from a current volunteer.
